Police Arrest ‘Obi of Lagos’, Stop Unlawful N1.5bn Palace Unveiling

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Chibuike Azubike, who allegedly claimed to be the ‘Obi of Lagos’.

He was taken into custody with three accomplices while attempting to stage an unlawful unveiling ceremony in Festac Town, located in the Amuwo Odofin local government area of Lagos State.

The state’s police spokesperson, DSP Babasuyi Oluseyi, claimed that intelligence revealed that the group had planned to unveil a prototype of a supposed N1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin.

He said that the police operatives acted swiftly on the information by sealing off the venue to prevent any disturbance or deception of the public.

The accomplices arrested alongside Azubike include Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41).

They are currently held at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

Oluseyi stated that sufficient manpower, including conventional officers, the Eko Strike Force, and other tactical units, was deployed for the operation to ensure that the planned event did not occur.

He added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the inquiry.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has warned the public to be cautious of impostors who exploit cultural and traditional institutions for personal gain.

Jimoh maintained that such acts are unlawful, can disrupt public peace, and will be firmly addressed by law enforcement.
