BREAKING: Egbetokun Steps Down As IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has resigned from his position.

A trusted source told Nigerian Pantagraph that Egbetokun handed in his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, citing family commitments that require his full attention.

The president has accepted his resignation.

It is also reported that Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu has been named as the new IGP.

Egbetokun was appointed IGP on June 19, 2023.

Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigations Department.

He took over from Usman Alkali Baba, whose tenure ended in September 2023 after a tenure extension granted by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
