AI Is The Future Of Music, We Must Learn To Work With It — Johnny Drille

Nigerian singer and songwriter Johnny Drille, born John Igodaro, has spoken about the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the music industry, urging creatives to embrace the technology rather than resist it.

The artiste acknowledged the rapid growth of AI technology, noting that musicians and stakeholders in the entertainment industry must learn how to adapt to the changing landscape.

According to him, AI is gradually becoming more prominent in music production and is unlikely to disappear.
“AI music is going to get more prominent. I think we have to figure out a way to work with AI because I don’t think it’s going anywhere. Technology never goes away; it becomes more prominent,” he said.

Drille, however, warned creatives against becoming overly dependent on the technology, stressing the need to preserve originality and emotional depth in music. He admitted that while AI presents new opportunities, there are still concerns about how the human element in music can be maintained.“I don’t know how the human element will be incorporated or how we will retain the human element of music and keep it human,” he added.

The ‘Wait For Me’ singer encouraged artistes to see AI as a tool that can support creativity rather than replace it.

Reflecting on the evolution of music technology, Drille pointed out that every major innovation in the industry had initially faced resistance.“But I think we have to find ways to embrace AI as a tool to help music. It’s inevitable. If you go back in history, one of the earlier ways people recorded music was with tape machines and actual tapes, and you were limited to a few tracks. “After that came portable recorders and then the digital stage with computers,” he explained.

The singer further noted that technologies such as computer recording and auto-tune were once criticised for being “unreal,” arguing that the current debate around AI mirrors similar reactions from the past.
