Badagry Area Commander of the NSCDC, Chief Superintendent Gbenga Ekunola, said the operation followed several days of intelligence gathering and surveillance.
According to him, the suspected institution had no official name, registration, signboard or recognised campus but allegedly operated online as a no distance-learning centre affiliated with a foreign university.
Preliminary investigations revealed that most of the rescued victims, aged between 19 and 24, came from states including Kogi, Oyo and several northern states, while others travelled from Niger, Cameroon and Togo after being recruited online.
The victims were said to have paid between N200,000 and N1.5 million as admission and processing fees, while some foreign nationals reportedly paid between $400 and $500 after being promised admission into the purported foreign tertiary institution.
The NSCDC said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify other individuals connected to the operation.
