Ex-Lawmakers Relaunch Lagos SWAGA, Launch Grassroots Campaign for Tinubu, Hamzat

Former lawmakers under the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) are preparing to relaunch their political mobilisation machinery in Lagos State, with a renewed campaign supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and backing All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as the state’s next governor in 2027.

The initiative, named “Lagos SWAGA 2.0,” aims to strengthen the group’s grassroots presence and consolidate its political structures across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group will officially launch its zonal, local government, and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) structures at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, Lagos Television (LTV) Compound, Coca-Cola Bus Stop, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

A statement issued by the Lagos SWAGA 2.0 Steering Committee on Thursday said the event would mark a strategic expansion of the movement’s operations across Lagos State.

The group explained that its renewed mobilisation efforts aim to reinforce political structures at the grassroots and ensure that the policies, programmes, and achievements of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda are effectively communicated to citizens.

SWAGA, which played a significant role in rallying support for Tinubu ahead of the 2023 presidential election, said it is now repositioning itself to sustain that momentum and secure his return to office in 2027.

The group also expressed its support for Hamzat, the APC’s governorship candidate in Lagos, as part of its effort to create a coordinated political platform for the presidential and governorship elections.

According to the statement, the relaunch will transition SWAGA from its previous phase of political advocacy into a more organised grassroots mobilisation network involving political actors and community-level organisers.

“Since its inception, SWAGA has been at the forefront of championing visionary leadership and political inclusion. Building upon the monumental successes of its initial phases, SWAGA 2.0 shifts its focus toward deepening community engagement, fostering inclusive governance, and creating a unified front ahead of future political milestones,” the statement declared.

A key feature of the event will be the swearing-in of newly appointed zonal coordinators and local administrators, who will drive the organisation’s advocacy and mobilisation activities across the state.

The coordinators are expected to act as the link between the movement’s leadership and the electorate across Lagos’ 57 local government areas and LCDAs.

The statement added that the new officials would mobilise communities, strengthen local structures, and promote the group’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political leaders, APC stalwarts, community influencers, and grassroots mobilisers from across the South-West are anticipated to attend the inauguration.

The steering committee said the gathering would serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the group’s commitment to political engagement, inclusive governance, and consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots.

The statement was signed by Hon. Afis Olaseinde Kasumu on behalf of the Lagos SWAGA 2.0 Steering Committee.
