The President of the Nigeria Union South Africa, Smart Nwobi, has disclosed that more than 1,000 Nigerians residing in South Africa have expressed interest in returning to Nigeria voluntarily.
Speaking on Friday, Nwobi said the repatriation process is being coordinated through relevant South African authorities, as many Nigerians have chosen to return after facing challenges including being stranded and failing to regularise their immigration status.
He explained that several of those seeking to leave South Africa had made unsuccessful attempts to obtain work permits, business permits, and other residency documents, leaving them exposed to difficulties under the country’s immigration regulations.
