Dr Waripamo-owei Dudafa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters and Social Events, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr Dudafa, a former member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, announced his decision in a statement dated October 16, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP, Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8, in the Kolokuma Opokuma local government area of the state.

In his resignation letter, Dr Dudafa, who previously served as the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Development in Bayelsa State, explained that his decision to leave the PDP was due to the prolonged and unresolved disputes at the national level. He indicated that these issues have significantly hindered the party’s progress and fostered an environment of conflict, which he believes is no longer conducive to achieving the shared values and objectives held by party members.
He further mentioned that his departure followed a period of deep reflection and consultation with his political associates, supporters, and family.
In his resignation letter, titled “Letter of Resignation from Membership,” Dr Dudafa wrote:
“I hope this letter finds you well. It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately. Throughout my time with the party, I have been deeply committed to our shared values and goals, and it has been an honour to work with so many dedicated individuals. However, the prolonged and unresolved disputes, particularly at the national level, have significantly impeded our ability to move forward and have created an environment of conflict that I believe is no longer conducive to advancing the shared values and objectives we hold dear.
“While this decision is difficult, I remain committed to serving the best interests of our people and motivated by my dedication to their welfare and progress. After careful reflection and consideration, I have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), a platform I believe offers renewed hope, unity, and a stronger foundation to address the challenges facing our dear state. I look forward to working alongside new colleagues who share this vision.
“I am grateful for the relationships and experiences I have gained during my time with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and wish the party well in overcoming its current challenges.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Dr Dudafa, who is considered a protégé of former President Dr Goodluck Jonathan, revealed his transition to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and encouraged his supporters to remain steadfast. Political observers believe his resignation could indicate realignments ahead of future political developments in Bayelsa and at the national level.
